Family Car camping at Moraine campground - kings canyon
August 3 - august 8
Troop 212 is planning a family "Car Camping" option for SoCal Trail Life Families. We will leave Monrovia around 5 am on Sunday August 3. Note: Families are not required to caravan with us. Families from Troop 212 will be required to attend one mandatory planning/equipment meeting in July. Families from other troops should send us an email via our contact form so we know you are coming.
Campsites at Moraine are first come, first serve and can't be reserved. That's why we are leaving early Sunday morning August 3 and arriving as campers leave Moraine. Our Advisor has camped there many times sometimes with 15 families joining him. He thinks we will find plenty of campsites.
The campsites are $18 per night and families are responsible for all their food, tents, etc. Public restrooms and paid showers are available. Bears and insects are quite active so we recommend you purchase a mesh tent before you arrive and use it to cover your eating area. Bear boxes are available and should be used. Optional group activities will be planned throughout the week. They include fishing, swimming, hiking, canoeing, horseback riding or just relaxing in the beautiful Kings Canyon area.
High Adventure Medical Form (Doctor Visit Needed) is required for all registered trailmen, their parents and Trail Life leaders. For more details about Moraine campground visit www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/moraine.htm
If you plan to attend or have more questions please email us via the contact form.
Note: You can attend multiple events. Some families are already planning to join us at Moraine after Camp San Joaquin or High Sierras Backpacking.
